I notice that even if they say that gambling is not allowed, there are people who are still engaged into gambling activities like betting. Do you think betting or playing cards are rampant in NZ?

There are lots of casinos in NZ but I’m not really sure about the illegal forms of gambling there. You have to be a local to know that kind of information.

I think the use of lotto is very popular in New Zealand though second to that was betting into other lotteries or gaming activities. According to what I’ve read, about 94 percent of age 18 and above people, do participate in gambling or gaming activities.

Post edited by: chinesegirl, at: 2007/06/24 11:35

Wow that is a huge percentage of people! Is lotto legalized in NZ these days? I just hope that people will not be addicted to gambling or worst, find students in gambling places and skip school.

Race betting is probably more popular than gambling per se. Speaking of betting, check this video I came across at gnuf.com. It's a stunt where a helicopter rolls two dice down a mountain side. Apparently people can bet on the outcome. Not sure if it took place in the South Island, maybe someone can help?
